The acknowledgment by the Prussian state took place however only in the year 1864. Due to the achievements of the grey sisters in the Danish war received the Catholic Charitable Organisation, as it was called from now on, by a decree of the king of Prussia, their legal capacity on 23 May 1864

The Sisters of Saint Elizabeth have been called Gray Sisters because of their former gray clothes.
The congragation was founded in 1842.
In Neisse/Silesia four women found together: Klara Wolff, Maria and Mathilde Merkert, as well as Franziska Werner. They helped poor sick people by oupatient care.
Fast many others followed them.
They elected
Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia as their patronesse.
The St. Marienstift was led by the Sisters of Saint Elizabeth from the beginning.
Even today sisters live and work at Marienstift..
